Reading The Kybalion
The Kybalion (full title: The Kybalion: A Study of the Hermetic Philosophy of Ancient Egypt and Greece) is a book originally published in 1908 by "Three Initiates" (often identified as the New Thought pioneer William Walker Atkinson, 1862-1932) that purports to convey the teachings of Hermes Trismegistus.
While it shares with ancient and medieval Hermetic texts a number of traits such as philosophical mentalism, the concept of 'as above, so below', and the idea that everything consists of gendered polar opposites, as a whole it is more indebted to the ideas of modern occultist authors, especially those of the New Thought movement to which Atkinson belonged. A modern Hermetic tract, it has been widely influential in New Age circles since the twentieth century.
A central concept in the book is that there are "seven Hermetic principles, upon which the entire Hermetic philosophy is based". These are, as literally quoted from the book:
1. The principle of mentalism
"The All is Mind; the Universe is Mental."
2. The principle of correspondence
"As above, so below; as below, so above.” This principle embodies the truth that there is always a correspondence between the laws and phenomena of the various planes of being and life.
3. The principle of vibration
"Nothing rests; everything moves; everything vibrates."
4. The principle of polarity
"Everything is dual; everything has poles; everything has its pair of opposites; like and unlike are the same; opposites are identical in nature, but different in degree; extremes meet; all truths are but half-truths; all paradoxes may be reconciled."
5. The principle of rhythm
"Everything flows, out and in; everything has its tides; all things rise and fall; the pendulum-swing manifests in everything; the measure of the swing to the right is the measure of the swing to the left; rhythm compensates."
6. The principle of cause and effect
"Every cause has its effect; every effect has its cause; everything happens according to law; chance is but a name for law not recognized; there are many planes of causation, but nothing escapes the law."
7. The principle of gender
"Gender is in everything; everything has its masculine and feminine principles; gender manifests on all planes."

I have always suspected James Cameron had undergone an Ayahuasca ceremony when he traveled to the Amazon during the time between Titanic (1997) and Avatar (2009). The world of Avatar, Pandora, seems to be something out of an Ayahuasca vision - especially during the night sequences. Now my suspicions deepen as I breakdown a deleted scene from Avatar. Which depicts Jake undergoing a shamanistic r...

It is worth noting that at the end of The Way of Water, Jake forms a deeper attachment with Eywa and Pandora through the 'Anemone of Souls' (aka the Metkayina version of the the Tree of Souls) - through Neteyam's death he comes to understand that his child lives on in the network and I think this means that his love and drive to protect his children now becomes extended to the entirety of Pandora. It is home, it is afterlife, it is consciousness - and him opening his eyes in the final shot, shows us this next step for his character: Jake is waking up to the notion that he must protect all of Pandora.

Intellects are often the dumbest people. Often. Because often their ambition and ego drive them. Outside in the real world, beyond the boundaries of labs and libraries, they are lost in their imaginations and expectations. They know better. Sit around and judge, the recent past is being discerned as they drive from work while reality passes them by. They’re out to prove something, and publish something. When you look at the big picture- we only add minor attributes to objects and theories “discovered” or notated generations ago. Since the internet, nothing new has been done- just additions to the internet. Architects build fancier and larger buildings with machines that other engineers built both studies are building those machine and buildings using the same techniques and understandings as the ancients but can do so quicker because Of the resources at hand. They still marvel at creations of the last and the scale of which, that were built with more simple and more sparse resources but even better technique. They speak verbosely, cite those from the past, organize word salads but fail to operate accurately outside of a library in present day-to-day life. Mostly. If an intellect is over themselves they create not to prove their existence worthwhile, they create for the larger pictures, and know they’re really not god nor smarter than you or I

I am a huge critic of the fantastical tenets of postmodernism. But I also appreciate and love damned good writing. The book is so damned good. I love Faulkner. I love poetic prose. I’ve been writing my whole life and have only been praised but dammit if Mitchell’s mastery of writing doesn’t make any writer jealous they are being dishonest. His wielding of style, his consistency, the depths of philosophy and narrative devices he explores without leaving one stead in-fastened is marvelous. His accurate and creative use of language, history, philosophy, and how he seamlessly blends those with different genres and tone is such a huge undertaking but he did so so fluidly. To make a movie of that book would be so hard and expensive. But for what they had (six-hundred pages distilled into three hours normally serves zeros justice to the source material) the production team and directors actually pulled it off. Cinematically one doesn’t even have to have read the book to appreciate it. If you have read it (multiple times like I have-it’s so good and I’m a faulknerian type but my appreciate for Bradbury maybe kept my mind open) and I can even tip my hat to the literary liberties the screenwriters took to tie in the parallels present in the book to fit them into the screen. Good literature and movie making is rarely appreciated by the masses or box offices so I have no gripe. I’m just here to say everyone involved- from Mitchell to those who adapted his book to the screen- did so with integrity and appreciation and did it so well. Props to everyone, even those who gave the works their time.

Tom Hanks always meets Halle Berry after walking through a door except for the rooftop scene, and in the same scene, as the critic is falling to his death you can see the millenium wheel which is lit blue which is similar to the blue button Hanks covets in the future. There's lots of little subtle scenes you have to watch for

What I find most interesting about James Cameron is that he was always drawn towards the ideas of human consciousness and connection to nature since the late 70s when he experimented with LSD and a tribe of native americans helped him and his buddy when they overdosed in a car 😂 Looking at Cameron's career its strange why he only began showing this side of him with the Avatar Franchise later in his life after making films like Terminator, Aliens and Titanic which involve topics of humanity, technology and the future but never bring neo-humanism to the table. On a different note, what is your opinion on the adaptation of Frank Herberts Dune by Denis Villeneuve? I heared that Herbert was an author that experimented with psylocibin and his books reflect a strong curiostiy towards human issues, ecology and the power of religion. You could make a video to discuss the parallels between Dune and Avatar and why both seem to be so popular with the audiences today.

Anyone who criticizes this film are the exact problem that we have with humanity. People who take everything at face value and don’t understand the truth behind the film. I felt every single word in this analysis I have loved this movie for decades and I don’t think I’ll ever love any movie more than this. I was disappointed in the sequel personally but that’s a whole other thing. Regardless this movie is always going to be necessary and relevant because unfortunately we’ll probably never change, except the few of us who choose to see past the facade and not take part in the bullshit.

I literally agree with you about people who dislike this movie. From my experience it seems that 100% of the people I've encountered who dislike this movie have no first hand experience with spiritual awakening or have no deep connection to nature. They tend to follow the standard societal paradigm of thought. As for the second film I made a documentary about it . Maybe I can show you how it is indeed as beautiful as the first. Not as profound in terms of the message, no. But profound in terms of sheer majesty. ua-cam.com/video/0BTPwoesL64/v-deo.htmlsi=rJQ8BUKCbr7ARPkn Check it out. Something David Attenborough has said about his beloved nature documentaries and the most important thing he hopes people will take away from them is an appreciation for and empathy and care for the natural world while acknowledging that it is in danger. After all, the less you see of something, the harder it is to care about it. In order to be stewards of the natural world, which we have to be if we want to survive and prosper ourselves, you have to CARE, the world around you has to MATTER to you. James Cameron’s Avatar series is the film equivalent of this idea. It’s cultivating an emotional connection to a beautiful, natural world while making you aware of the reality of the dangers posed towards it. And so whether it’s spiritualistic or not, it’s all towards the same end. If not for all the beautiful life on our planet, do it for yourself, because empathy is a powerful emotional motivator to push you in the direction which is objectively in your best interest and humanity’s best interest. It really doesn’t matter who you are or what you believe; You. Need. To. Care.

47:57 is also a triumph in writing. The original is often criticized for it's 'bad' writing. In a time where everything has a backdoor, and a multiverse can make a writer more comfortable to restart without standing by it; Cameron, here, stands 100% by it as well as use it to be masterfully incorporated into the storyline itself. I cheered to myself when I first heard it.

Evolution is BS btw. White people came from God. They did behave monstrously toward each other as every native culture behaved monstrously toward warring tribes. But that all changed when God came back to save His Sheep, the white European Christians. Through Christ, we civilized the world. If evolution was a thing, we would see from native cultures the evolutionary process in some ways. We would see cave drawings showing the missing links all leading up to their ancestors.

  • @LukeLovesRose

I love these movies. James Cameron is my favorite filmmaker. But i cant help but think that this is all part of a greater agenda. The people running Hollywood, running the media, running the world banks, they want us all to become weak. They want us all to throw away our possessions and depend solely on them. The only way that can happen is if we develop hatred or disdain or passe attitude toward everything weve worked for, everything our parents and grandparents built. I mean, why does no one talk about the good thing that Western civilization and Christianity brought into this world?? Thats suspicious. If this was an objective study on the effects of advanced Western culture, we would hear all of the benefits weve brought to the world. Instead, all people talk about or harp on are the bad effects. That just screams agenda to me. Its like everyone is suddenly a blind activist trying to tear down the civilized and comfortable world around them. People dont seem to realize how ugly and difficult life can be without their cell phones. Never mind how ugly and difficult it would be if we have to live without our homes, cars, shopping centers, heaters, coolers, refrigerators and toilets, etc.

There is an object we are introduced too in The Way of Water that Cameron wrote into the body of the storyverse in a very clever way , That object is called a "Songcord", or in Na'vi, A "Waytelem". This simple string with beads object holds a suprisingly strong resemblance to a string of rosery beads, so one might say its reflective of that object and many will cross link to that "likeness". (Why would he do that ?) But in truth its root refection comes from the living roots of "some" indigious cultures. The cultures that use "Wampum" ... Wampum can come in the form of a string or a Belt. But whats unique about Wampum ? in its use it is a Mnemonic device used to recount important information ,storys , and Mytholgy but more importanly wampum has also been used as a tool to heal from deep seated Tramma. so that little string has a much deeper living history then many of us realise ,, and again its used reflectivly in Avatar the way of water and is intentionally not a direct copy of any of the real living examples out there , Reflectivly ,The Na'vi to the best of our knowledge are an "oral tradition" people , they have no writing system or "history books" so they use songcords and cave paintings (that we often call petroglyphs) to visualy record events in there history. This object is also used within the storyverse of the Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora game. linking one, to the roots of there familys and there peoples collective "memorys" , How are some indigious peoples connected with wampum ? one example in humble recognition of Haudenosaune living history. ua-cam.com/video/0DaNMtVANsA/v-deo.html , Running deep under the surface we all have connection these repressed "internal" memorys as well , Avatar's reflective storyverse examples and experence can for "some people" bring them to the surface, I am reminded of reflective works of indigious speaker and verse writer John Trudel (Lakota) and one of his examples "These Memorys".(On youtube) In recognition of some of the story layers reflected through the film Avatar.. For something to think about , A lot of words in our language have internal Latin embedment witihn them.. One common word "Animal". we use it everyday without much thought, but break it down into its three syllables An-I-(Mal) <----- and run a latin translation upon each part .. the last part should be an eye opener , in reflection to our treatment and lack of recognition of non humman life forms. "I was driven to ask the question where are internal examples like this sourced from ? Are indigious peopels knowledge keepers aware and concerned about this ? Absolutly , But are we ? are our eyes open to these layers ? ua-cam.com/video/HdSFsecI-tY/v-deo.html one important point about the Na'vi in general in there refelctive examples , By reflective example The Na'vi clans we have met so far are all strongly tilted Matriarcal sociatys ,women within there sociatys hold very strong voices and empowered roles and are hold core roles within there leadership circles,The Charter "Ronel" continues this saga , But she also has her own stereotypes to address, (the examples and unspoken language of her conflit when she meets Neytiri and she requests refuge for there family. these are are all issues of our time ,., Thank you for sharing your perspetive on symbolism within .

Avatar is the definition that the world is upside down. Angels come from the sky while demons come from below. It is the complete opposite for humans (devils) and Na'vi (angels). Jake is literally the upside-down version of Lucifer, falling from Hell into Heaven. Despite this, the Na'vi have fallen angels like the Ash People (Fire Na'vi), who might be tempted by humanity's gift of technology. Overall, I see Avatar as a story of humanity's redemption of demons who work to regain their wings as angels once more.

I was hooked in minutes with this movie. I've seen it a few times, had to go get the book just to be safe.

Oh didn't know you made a sequel to your original review, i loved this movie, Avatar is oddly underrated despite being literally the biggest-grossing movie of all time at one point.

Everyone went to see them for the visual spectacle and were too stupid to see anything else. Like he said, this movie SHOWS, not tells, like film should… and everyone ive ever seen criticize this movie either knows nothing about films, the artistry of them, or is simply painfully unawake…. Saying things like “what else are humans supposed to do but destroy the environment” and “natives used to be savages - humans all suck” etc… completely missing the point and clearly falling for white capitalist propaganda

Cloud Atlas was a film that changed my life... it was truly remarkable... like inception, interstellar etc... I would love a series that goes in depth of all storylines

I remember watching this when it came out and not understanding what was happening at all. Ten years later and I'm profoundly blown away.
